Marlin for sure - finest lever action rifle ever made. PERIOD. Why the Cowboy? Try to ge a little shorter, lighter carbine....skip the octogon barrel.....unless you dig cowboy stuff.....

Marlins are common. Parts are available.
Not sure about the Henry.

what I did like about the cowboy was the smooth action and the weight actually helped keep me steady on target. I'm wondering more about jamming and such. I've heard about quality issues with both. Maybe isolated incidence maybe not.

I can't say enough about the Marlins. They are SWEET. I have had two of the 1895s in 45-70 and they are beasts. My vote goes to the Marlin. Three thumbs up. Why .44 ? Have you ever thought about 45-70 ?

I chose the 44 mag because all I needed was a short range round and opted to balance my need for punch on the animal and punch in my shoulder. I spend most of my time in dense forest, so shorter range is fine. The other issue was consistant availability of ammo in my area. 44mag seems to be on the shelves more often than not.

Marlin without question (though Henry does make a fine lever gun). Mine is my favorite rifle. Nice choice on the .44 mag. It will be a monster.

I say Marlin, but the model 336 in .44 magnum, fine rifle. I have one with a Sauer and Son Single action revolver in .44 magnum to go with it. Ya almost can't get a better rifle for close(100yds or less)work, and the revlover is just FUN to shoot! Get the Marlin.

44 Specials are my favoite Cartridge to shoot. I like the softness and the obvious big hole. I would love to have a lever gun that could shoot 44sp or 44 Mag it would be a great short range thumper.

They are the easiest to reload IMHO so it would be cheap to keep.

Marlin good--Henry unknown to me

The Henry is a great rifle, with a distinguished history, but why pay for the name? Go Marlin, built like a tank!

Well I guess it doesn't matter which one I want because every retailer in western Canada that I called is saying that orders were put in late last year....all guns have been held at the border for the last two months....no idea when or if they will be released. Not one marlin or henry in stock unless I want to pay $1030 for a Marlin 1894 cowboy (and I only found two of those).

The one i want is the regular Marlin 44 mag 1894 ($700). Not one to be found anywhere.

Ugh
